Books & Authors

(MeL is Michigan eLibrary provides all Michigan residents with free on-demand access to online
full-text articles, full-text books, digital images, and other valuable research information.)

Now that you’ve gotten through all your summer beach reads you’re ready to get some “sitting by the fire watching the snow fly” titles lined up for the fast approaching winter.  (despite what you may think, winter doesn’t REALLY start until December 21, 6:03 pm, EST)  The MeL.org database Books & Authors has many useful features that extend beyond browsing and finding good books.  The Read-A-Like wizard will offer suggestions of titles similar to what you’ve liked in the past, AND, includes a link to MeLCat so you can check availability of what you find.  Create a free account and you gain access to My Reading Room, My Marked List, My Reviews & Ratings, Author Lists, and Searches where you can create, maintain and share lists.

Library users with a valid library card from any one of Michigan's nearly 400 public libraries can print a pass, either from home or at the library, to one of the 70+ participating cultural institutions at the http://michiganactivitypass.info website. Some cultural partners offer complimentary or reduced price admissions; others, discounts in their gift shop or other exclusive offers for MAP pass holders only.  Each Michigan Activity Pass expires one week from the date it is printed.  Each library will have five passes available per week for each of the participating organizations.
